[Speculation about the] Cause of Dungeon and Dragon Cancellations

Cause of Dungeon and Dragon Cancellations
Subtitle: Wizards was probably as surprised as everyone else.

I couldn't get some of the formatting right, so the post is here.

Come back here to post of course.
I don't think I'll respond much, I'd be obliged if people would be kind enough to not get the thread closed but I won't hold it against you.

Again, please check the hate at the door or limit yourself to enjoying the conversation in a non-participatory fashion.
Excellent analysis. Gave me a lot of food for thought.

It probably makes a lot more sense than the actual facts will, if we ever find out what they are.

Anyway, you missed out one key customer group. Who else are you going to convert? People who are annoyed at the big bad WotC blowing down the little guy's house, and want to lodge a protest. That Eric Mona is a machiavellian genius. Bet he's a real RB DM.

Its a shame James had to jump in so quickly and de-bunk an interesting conspiracy theory. Paizo have been doing that a lot lately - posting on message boards, keeping their customers informed, treating us as if we are worth keeping etc.

Ah, I love the smell of sarcasm in the morning. It smells of victory! :)

Perhaps Hate mail is the wrong phrase, Strongly dislike your course of action mail might be the better phraseology.

Suffice to say I grit my teeth thinking about the mishandlings that WoTC has been perpitrating on the lot of us since the revamp from 3.0 to 3.5 (though I like 3.5 I think it could have been put off for a while), and the aweful junk that MM4 turned out to be ( I hate the new stat block), and now the discontinuation of Dragon and Dungeon. (Etools falls into this list as well)

Well that was an interesting spin on things. It does make the original poster sound like a bit of a WotC apologist. Kudos to Mr. Jacobs for poking a hole in this thread to let out all the hot air.

The swines! :D

glass.

The theory is nice, but it's completely wrong. The author didn't seem to realize that the Paizo people have been telling us quite candidly that both of the magazines have been generating an increasing profit for the last several years. Take that away, and the entire conspiracy theory falls apart.

In short, this guy doesn't know what he's talking about.

James, I think it's really cool that you're taking time to debunk. I'm going to miss Dungeon, but you make the universe seem that much more caring. :)
It's all to keep you from realizing he keeps dead bodies in his crawlspace.

No way! That's the first place the MAN looks for bodies. I make sure to stash the hard evidence like that in the dumbwaiter or perhaps in the woods, in a shallow grave next to the haunted forgotten graveyard where it's a SURE THING that they won't reanimate and seek me out for vengeance from beyond the grave.

But anyway, thanks for adjusting the thread title, Piratecat. I'm perfectly willing to discuss the end of the magazines' print run here or at Paizo's messageboards, and I'll try to step in to threads like this one to sort things out when I can. In the meantime, we've got a pretty extensive FAQ about the whole thing over on our website that can certainly answer a lot of questions as well.
