[Speculation] What is "Project G"

Folks,

It's not Gamma World. A version of Gamma World will appear in the next Polyhedron, but it has nothing to do with Sean or Monte or the "Project G." It is, however, written by one of the three main 3e designers.

Hmmm...Project G....G....

GEOFF!

GEOFF.....

BARRIER PEAKS!

WOTC said they would be doing a return to the Barrier Peaks...

I know, I know.... I'm really reaching now... :D

Well whenever they get to it...At least we know the letter G WAS involved. Ghostwalker...mmm perhaps a kind of "Ghost dog, way of the Samurai" type theme. I think it might be a campaign setting though from the sound of it.

No, it definitely has nothing to do with any sort of samurai/Ghostwalker PrC. But you are on target with it being a campaign setting. The best hint I can give is to quote a line from The Mummy, "Death is only the beginning."

hmmm....a setting where all the PCs are dead? Sounds different. Anyone know a plane with a G in it where dead people go?

Not quite, but you're somewhat warm. :D Ghostwalk handles death a bit differently. Until Sean reveals more, I really can't say how, but it is new and very cool.

Gee did they just rip off Wraith? Or that Ravenloft book that let you play as undead?

No, it really is new (and I never said anything about undead). Maybe Sean will reveal a little more soon. He's been slowly adding characters, and other things influenced by (or directly from) Ghostwalk for months (as he mentions in his Project "G"/Ghostwalk update section).

From SKR's new Ghostwalk page:

What is Ghostwalk? It's the book formerly known as "Project G," a book that Monte Cook and I wrote last summer. Currently it's in limbo, but according to recent statements by Anthony Valterra of WotC, they're just waiting for a hole to appear in the product schedule, and they'll move forward on the art, typesetting, and printing on this book. So it may be out of limbo in the next year or so.

Monte and I are very proud of it.

It's something new, not a revamp of an existing campaign setting, world, or game.

I ran a playtest of it last summer, and I had a lot of fun, and the players did, too.

The external playtesters (people who got the files from WotC and ran playtests independent of myself or Monte) involved in the book gave a lot of positive feedback on it.

There are a lot of minis and characters on my site directly related to it. If the book comes out of limbo and is published, I'm going to explain more about those minis and characters.

The next game I run is going to use it, whether or not it is ever published.

Hmm...doesn't sound very interesting to me personally...

Granted we don't know much, but the title alone turns me off..It sounds silly..I'd much rather see a full-blown Gamma World than a "off the beaten path" fantasy D&D campaign setting...While I admire SKR and MC's talent, I know that my tastes and theirs are at opposite ends of the spectrum...If Sean is that psyched about it, then chances are that I will totally dislike it...

Oh well, I'll just have to grovel some more for GH source materials...(please no CORE=GH speeches, I don't buy that line, argued about it enough here in the past year or two, and don't want to go there)

Here's my guess:

Something silly that lets you switch to playing another character when you die. Or maybe you can't die, like in Planescape Torment, or maybe...

Who you gonna call?
Ghostwalkers!
:D
