Note that the rate of travel is walking, which is basically your unmodified Move score. An undead army can hustle continuously (no fatige effects, no non-leathal damage; double move), 24/7; thus, an undead army is much more tactically manuverable than a normal human army - your basic human zombie can get 6*24 = 144 miles in a day with no penalties (as long as they have leaders that can keep up.....) while your basic human army takes penalties if they go more than 8 hours in a day at a walk (3 miles/hr) -> 24 miles. A forced march or some hustling can increase that somewhat, but not to the inhuman levels undead can sustain. Undead make great raiders and messengers in a war. A mean DM could maybe even be convinced that undead capable of running could run continuously, and thus double the 144 to 288 miles/day for skeletons, ghouls, ghasts, et cetera (but not zombies - the most they can manage is a hustle).
