There seem to be a few odd creatures in the 2nd Edition Wizard and Priest Spell Compendiums that don't show up elsewhere. Does anyone recall seeing any of these anywhere else?

-- I've been slogging through these books looking for new spells that don't suck, so this got my attention. Let's see, starting with the Priest books ...
Call Hounds - Halfling
(Conjuration/Summoning)
Sphere: Summoning
Level: 4
Range: 10 ft. radius
Components: V, S, M
Casting Time: 1 rd.
Duration: 1 turn/level
Area of Effect: Special
Saving Throw: None
The casting of this spell causes a pair of jet-black hounds to appear anywhere within the spell's range, as the caster desires. The hounds are completely loyal and attempt to carry out the caster's every command. The caster's control over the hounds is nearly absolute, only a full wish or divine intervention is sufficient to subvert the hounds' loyalty to the priest.

The hounds are considered war dogs, with maximum hit points (18 hp) and lawful neutral alignment. They are more intelligent than normal war dogs (rated as Low), and are capable of understanding complex instructions.

The call hounds spell cannot be dispelled. It ends if the hounds are slain or subjected to a banishment spell, if the caster is slain or rendered unconscious, or if the caster wills the spell to cease. Protection from good and similar effects can keep the hounds at bay. If the hounds are ordered to perform a task that contradicts the tenets of their patron Power, they simply vanish, ending the spell.

The spell requires the caster's holy symbol and a silver dog whistle worth at least 50 gp, which the caster sounds during casting. Neither is destroyed in the casting
Notes: Granted by the halfling god Urogalan.
Hounds: AC 6; MV 12; HD 2+2; THAC0 19; #AT 1; Dmg 2d4; AL LN; SZ M; ML Ave (8-10); XP 65.

-- In 3.5 this is effectively just a specialized version of Summon Monster IV/Summon Nature's Ally IV at best (more like Summon Monster II - Celestial War Dogs), and probably doesn't really need any conversion. But running with the idea of it letting you get a pair of 'maximized' war dogs with a little "something special" from the Halfling god for it being 4th level, maybe:

Summon War Dogs of Urogalan
Conjuration (Summoning) [Lawful] [see text]
Level: Clr 4
Components: V, S, F/DF
Casting Time: 1 round
Range: Close (25 ft. + 5 ft./2 levels)
Effect: Two summoned creatures
Duration: 1 round/level (D)
Saving Throw: None
Spell Resistance: No

This spell summons two divine servants of the halfling god Urogalan, in the form of hunting hounds. The hounds appear at the designated location and act immediately, on your turn. The hounds are intelligent and can be directed to attack particular enemies, or perform other actions. The hounds will always attempt to flank their opponent and smite evil (if possible) before the summon duration ends.

The hounds are immune to dispel magic, antimagic fields, and other spells or abilties that would ordinarily affect a summoned creature, but they can be subjected to a banishment spell. If the hounds are ordered to perform a task that contradicts the tenets of Urogalan, they simply vanish, ending the spell.

* Includes a +4 racial bonus.
