D&D 5E Spell -> Counterspell -> Counterspell (from same character that casts 1st spell) - possible?

To be clear, that is not what I am arguing and I am not applying it to anything. The only thing I am arguing is that RAW is not crystal clear and people could (right or wrongly) and did interpret it differently.

It's too late. People are now responding to whatever someone might be wrong about, because they have a perfect rebuttal to that theoretical mistake or opinion.

Your participation is no longer required, it's self sustaining now. :)

Fantastic - I'm outta here! :)

You do realize that what Perkins says in Sage Advice means didley squat, right? Perkins isn't the rules guy. Jeremy Crawford is.
Seeing as Crawford is also the one who seems to think it takes an entire hour (!) of combat to interrupt a long rest, I'd be taking his pronouncements with a big grain of salt too.

I agree that the rule appears to be and is officially as you suggest, but I don't think I will every agree it is very clear.
Clear or not, I'll never agree with its intent.

I had an archmage go up against the group with a bladesinger and warlock in it. The archmage was casting a spell so the warlock counterspelled it, only to have the archmage counterspell the counterspell, and then the bladesinger counterspell the counterspell of the counterspell.

Because the bladesinger's counterspell worked against the archmage's counterspell of the warlock's counterspell, the warlock's counterspell counterspelled the archmage's spell (a wall of force).

And that's why I made my wild mage with subtle spell so that he could cast an uncounterspellable counterspell should anyone try to counterspell his twinned disintegrates :D

Great.

Now please excuse me while I step outside and lose my sanity.
