spell or magic item to duplicate an elf's secret door check

As the title says.

An elf who merely passes within 5 feet of a secret or concealed door is entitled to a Search check to notice it as if she were actively looking for it.

I am imagining Spectacles of Elven Sight or whatever, maybe a better name. I have no idea how to magically duplicate this, spell level or magic-item cost or whatever. Any help is appreciated.

Spectacles of Detect Secret Doors:

Make it a use-activated/continuous item, so it costs - Spell lvl x Caster lvl x 2,000 x 2 (it's a 1st lvl spell with a minute per level duration)

So it would cost 4,000 gp.

As with the base spell, you'd have to stop and concentrate, rather than it triggering automatically, so it's not 'always on' like the elven ability is, but the benefit is that you can detect a secret door within 60 ft, rather than having to pass within 5 ft, and you don't have to make a Search check.

The psionic power elfsight gives you the visual abilities of an elf which includes low-light vision, +2 to Search and Spot checks, and their secret door detection abilities. You can find it in the Psionics section of the 3.5 SRD.

But then you have to feed it, care for it, and all that stuff. And sometimes an elf just spoils the mood.

I think I'd build it like the detect secret doors item, but allow it to have the "elf Site" ability you are looking for. (IE, you'd need the detect secret doors spell to make it, price it about the same way). Or make it a Psionic item.

Actually, I was wondering about getting an elf as an Improved Familiar. That way you can keep it in a Familiar Pocket most of the time, where it can't be annoying.

I suppose it could still whine at you over the empathic link, though.
