I thought if I wanted to use existing spells, that I'd have to convert the spell from EoM to figure out its points. (IE - Acid Fog. has fog, and uh... vapor. Mist. Is that water, or just mist? Uh... one round to cast. Uh...what'd I forget? )
I don't want to go through all that![]()
That's what the designers want you to do, but my party has survived just fine a year converting any spell spells that we didnt create or want to recreate into hte system. If there's a spell you wish from a d20 book, multiply the spell level by 2 and add 1.
The way the system works, is that you get a certain amount of "spell lists" per level and a certain amounnt of "spell points". YOu can only make up spells out of the spell lists you got. As a rule for my players, if they want to add a normal d20 spell to their signature spell list (signature spells are prepared spells you can cast in a standard round) , just make sure to tell them that they should have spell lists dealing with the spells. I'm pretty loose with this rule. If my players have evoke fire as a spell list, then they can learn any spell that uses evoke fire as a spell list. I even allow them to switch out elements in certain spells (IE burning hands) if they have another evoke element spell. This way, the players whom want to create their own spells can, but those whom don't have the time can still use the core 3.5 stuff with no sweat.
