Spell Requests

Nathan P. Mahney

First Post
I'm currently writing an adventure and I need a couple of spells that do the following certain things:

1st spell: A spell that transforms an unknown language into a language that the reader understands

2nd spell: A permanent spell that makes objects really difficult to take and hard to damage. (This isn't to hamper the PCs, but I'm running an adventure in an ancient museum. It's infested with monsters, and I'd like a reason that the monsters haven't simply taken all of the stuff or torn it to shreds.)

Generally I like to use stuff that exists already (preferably in a Wizards book, because I have most of them), rather than making up my own stuff. Does anyone know if there's anything like these in the books?

temporal stasis could also be modified to work on objects, it is level 8 on the PHB. as written creature immune to harm and aging, pefect for a museum. Drop it a level or 2, and it could be object only.

Wall of Force & Permanency. It's invisible, so you can see right through it; it doesn't take damage, so you can't claw your way through it; it's been changed to Permanent, so it will last as long as you like.

Expensive in terms of XP, though - but hey - it's the DM's setup, so that doesn't much matter, does it?

Tongues isn't really what I'm looking for. I want a spell that affects the writing itself, rather than a specific person - the writing will adapt to whoever reads it.

Wall of Force is also not quite right: there are a couple of items, such as books, that I want the characters to be able to manipulate.

I get the feeling that I'm looking for effects that are somewhat too specific - I should just insert the desired effects via DM fiat, but I like to create all that stuff by the book.

(Oh, and a pox on me for not owning Magic of Faerun... Could I get a brief description of Hardening, please?)

It just improves the hardness of an object.

As for the first... a magic item with a use-activated Comprehend Languages should do (reduced cost for only affecting the writing on the item itself, which is a pretty big limitation, so should at least cut the cost in half).

Bye
