Spell Storing Weapon: Best choices?

Corsair

First Post
I'm introducing a cleric cohort with either a +1 Spell Storing Longsword -OR- a +1 Shocking Longsword (since I can GMW it to +2). I think the Spell Storing is more interesting, but my question is:

1) What cleric spells would be best stored in the weapon?

2) What wizard spells would be best stored in the weapon? (the Leader is a wizard)

3) Would I just be better off with a flat extra d6 of damage?

#1, I was leaning towards Blindness/Deafness or Bestow Curse, figuring it'd be better to weaken so that future beatings would be more successful.

#2, I'm up to 8d6 from scorching ray (it'll be 12d6 next level) so that'd be a nice extra oomph. Other than that or something like Tasha's Hideous Laughter or Slow, I'm drawing a blank.

I need spell suggestions!

This depends on whether you plan on staying in combat and whether you think your spell will be effective against your next opponent. It really depends. :)

Bestow curse is a particularly nice one.

Scorching ray is not a choice because it is not a Targeted spell.

Spell storing vs shocking depends on how many times in combat you plan on hitting your opponent.

As a cleric, since you might very well spend time buffing or having to heal other party members and not to mention lower attack rating, spell storing sounds like the better choice.

Plus, I just plain love spell storing.

Ah thats technically a ray. Always forget that. (I do the same thing with enervation and disintigrate)

Well this cleric will usually be hanging in back with the two wizards in the party. She'll be acting as a bodyguard to my wizard, so she'll have some warrior abilities.

Word of Recall - not for weapon

Although it might not be my first choice for a weapon, word of Recall is a very useful insurance policy. 6th level Cleric spell. I don't know if there is an arcane variety.

You can't put spells of level 4 and higher into a spell storing weapon. I know you wrote "not for weapon" so I have no idea what you're trying to say.

Btw, hold person is a good one to have. Suggestion would be an interesting one and necessitate a rules discussion. Vampiric touch is probably one of the best wizard spells for spell storing.

It's always worth checking with your DM what caster level he expects spells to be cast at.

1. Minimum caster level (like the ring of spell storing).
2. Caster's caster level.
3. Weapon's caster level.

Since it's stated that the weapon casts the spell, it's my understanding that the as-written answer is 3, but it's one I'd never assume from DM to DM :)

Inflict Serious Wounds isn't bad.
Neither is (targeted version) Dispel Magic.

Or a stored Shatter for use when Sundering. :]

Another question on spell storing is whether you can use a metamagic rod or sudden metamagic or divine metamagic to put in a 'higher level' spell. Most people say no (same thing on creating items like potions and wands).

For the spell storing, I would say yes, you could use the rod.

I have a spell storing weapon, and I usually have the party sorcerer cast Vampiric Touch into it. Only half the damage of the average spell, D6/2 levels, but you get those as temp HPs. Nice.
