Spellfire

First Post
I was doing some searches on ebay and came across a card game called Spellfire. Anyone played this? Is it worth pursuing? My son and I play magic from time to time, but I always have my eyes open for an alternative.

Any thoughts or suggestions?

Unless you just want to collect junk with the D&D logo on it, I wouldn't bother. You would do better finding other card games, of which I could not offer any names that might be appropriate for younger ages.

You would likely have more fun with a Uno deck than spellfire.

I tried playing spellfire when I was eight. It was cool, and the rules sounded fun, and the cards were neat...

But the rulebook was arcane and HUGE. In hindsight, it's a bad game. The concept involved heroes, monsters and minions, trying to take map segments (terrain cards) and that sounds awesome. But all I remember is anyone else who I tried to get to play reading halfway through the rules and giving up. Poorly executed, compared to modern card games. Or so I'd expect- I'm no longer quite familiar with them (still have some cards though)

Ah yes, one of culprits in TSRs bankruptcy.

They also had some kind of collectible dice game--I think--that was successfull for a while, before it wasn't.

What, are you kidding? Dragon dice were awesome! I'd child laborlaws weren't what they were, I'd have found a job just to keep buying 'em. That game was awesome. Simple, cool, really nice fluff, and it came with a TSR dice bag.

A TSR dicebag!

Can you imagine how much coolness and power you have when, at age 11, you have a dice bag that matches the Lord Masters who produce the rules' Logo?! to this day I regret losing those bags.

And the rules, because I can still find almost enough dice to have an army. Har.

It was TSR attempt to regain market share from Magic by WOTC. Gamers around here felt that Maigc was drawing potential new players and the free cash from the old guard.

You might be interested then, that at least last year, Dragon Dice were once more available.

However, the mass production of Dragon Dice wasn't really a great idea...perhaps if they had restrained themselves to producing a little fewer or in a better regulated and distribution method....
