I've been looking at a simpler set of rules to use when dealing with magic and abilities. I'm wondering if anyone has used something similar or if anyone would see any glaring holes in it.
The basic idea is to extend the spell point variant to all aspects, rather than spells. There would be three types of points used: mana for arcane spells, essence for divine spells, and focus would be used for use per day abilities. An example would be a druid using essence points for her spells and focus points for wildshape abilities.
The only issue I've been tripped over so far is one of balance. If a high level monk (who has 100 focus points per day) decides to gain a few levels of druid in order to get wildshape, he could use all 100 focus points on wildshape. Granted, he wouldn't be able to use any of his other abilities for the day, which would be a trade off, but might cause problems with balance.
Any constructive criticisms will be greatly appreciated.
