Spells affecting allies

If I'm smiling, buying you a drink, and playing cards with you, does that mean I'm friendly to you? Even if I'm privately thinking "Soon, the opportunity to stick my knife in his back, frame him for drug trafficking, and steal his wife will be here!"?

Just because you think I'm your friend doesn't mean it's true!

To get the hypotheticalness out of the way: Do you, perchance, plan to stick your knive in his back, frame him for drug, trafficking, and steal his wife as soon as the opportunity presents itself?

The big question, of course, is: Does it really affect actual allies (or enemies), or is your perception of those important?

It was clarified in 3E that it is the creatures in the radius who are the 'area' of the spell, not the radius itself.
Clarified where?

If that is the case, then it looks like I have another houserule for my list!

What he currently has planned for the future is very relevant. What he will plan in the future is not.
Exactly. That's what I was saying. Only the 'now' is pertinent. The answer to "Is he your ally?" must be made now.

And a doppelganger who has replaced your buddy and is acting the way your buddy always did, so that he can get into a better position to betray you in the morning, is not your ally now. Even though you don't know he isn't.
