D&D 5E Spells or ranged attacks in melee?

Is there any penalty for choosing these actions while in melee range of an enemy? I don't see anything like that. Am I missing something?

Thanks,

I noticed the same two days ago :erm:

In previous packets there was a rule that ranged attacks in melee were done with disadvantage on the attack roll, as well as another rule that spells in melee required a Dex check to cast correctly*. Neither those actions provoked OA (which is why I personally quite liked them*).

Both rules have been removed, so at the moment there is no penalty for either (there are concentration rules for spell but they cover the action of sustaining a spell already cast, not the casting action itself).

*edit: the rule for spells in melee was actually more (and needlessly) complicated than just a Dex check
