Spellscar Experiences

Is it just me, or does a full spellscarred character (complete with all the power swap feats and savant as the paragon path) seem really, really weak? I know swordmage is better in play than it looks on paper, but I just don't see a build where going full-blown spellscared would be worth it. Does anyone have any play experience with it that says otherwise?

Has anyone even tried the full-on spellscar experience? I've not seen anyone in my home group or my RPGA legion even touch the spellscar idea.

Our group has two PCs that are spellscarred - however, we're still low level and have not even gotten to the point of considering full-on spellscar paragon power swapping stuff.

At least for my one of the two PCs in question, I plan to dabble with the novice power swap feat. but I don't have plans to use paragon path power swapping.
However, if i were a fighter (or some other class that -- IN MY OPINION FOR PREFERRED PLAY STYLE -- was too bland) then I would definetly go in to paragon path swapping to get more varied attack options.

There are a few situations where going heavy into spellscar might be good. Any con-based warlock is going to be lacking a good option to multiclass into, as no other class provides con based powers. This also gives them some melee powers in case they are in close quarters. By going full spellscarred savant, they can get spellfire mastery at level 16, and use up encounter spellscar powers (including utility powers) to get more use out of their own arcane powers. That you can get rid of a low level power to recharge a higher level power is great.

There are some other classes that could use it, but the con-lock has the right combination of being an arcane class that can benefit from the paragon path, and lacking alternatives for multiclassing.

Huh. I hadn't thought of it that way. I had recently looked at it and was bummed my infernal warlock didn't fit the implement powers. I'll have to take another look.

I think that for most characters it will be a matter of picking up one or two Spellscarred powers for a neat effect or wierd trick.

I can see a Blood Mage using the "Cursed Grasping Air" power to get extra mileage out of Blood Pulse, or a Rogue using "Terrible Imposition" for a theatrical way of getting a flank.

"Terrible Imposition" is a beautiful power that I hope dearly to use someday. That said, there are plenty of Spellscarred powerst hat I feel the same way about. Many may not be effective Crunch-wise, but they're fantastic flavorfully.

Let me say that call of the plague was absolutely ridiculously good with my old laser cleric once you remember that you can move targets less than the forced movement. The power did take a long time to resolve, though.
