Spies in Space!!!

I have recently been tinkering with a homebrew idea for D20. Basically, I want to create a high-tech, SF space setting for intrigue and espionage games. I own the main Spycraft book, and like the system, but have no real desire to run a modern spy campaign. I've always felt that espionage and SF went together like peanut butter and chocolate (cyberpunk was always one of my favorite genres, but that's not really where I'm going with this), and am always surprised that you don't see more of it.

Anyway, I want to know if anyone else has done anything like this, or what their feelings are on how to tackle the rules set.

Should I:

1. Use Spycraft, and throw in spaceships and sci-fi weapons? I like the classes in Spycraft, and with the exception of the Wheelman, could probably work with all of them as written.

2. Wait for D20 Modern. Admittedly, I have mixed feelings about the class system, and don't think it would really work with a gritty SF espionage drama, but have heard that the game is extremely flexible in all other ways.

or 3. Wait on Traveller D20 (T20). Never played any other incarnation, but from what I hear, this may require the least amount of jury-rigging.

Let me know what you think. My thanks in advance.

Some random thoughts to get you guys thinking:
Mostly likely use VP/WP system.
As hard sci-fi as a non-science student such as myself can come up with.

Yeah, I thought about Dragonstar. If I go with the Spycraft idea, I'll probably make a pilot class that's a hybrid of the DS pilot and the SC wheelman. I guess I could take some of the DS weapons too. I'm just wondering if there's a system that does this all for me. Just playing Dragonstar without magic sounds kinda blah to me, and doesn't really jibe with the feel I'm trying to create.

T20 is out and in stores now. Me, I'd love a Spycraft/T20 cross-over campaign. Shouldn't be too hard to do.

What are the classes like?

Core and Service Classes:
Academic
Army
Barbarian
Belter
Marines
Mercenary
Merchant
Navy
Noble
Professional
Rogue
Scouts
Traveller

Prestige Classes:
Big Game Hunter
TAS Field Reporter
Ace Pilot

You can check out T20 Lite a free 64-page introduction to the rules available for download from the website. It gives you one of the classes (Merchant), a preview of the Prior History and Combat Systems, along with a number of skills and feats.

I came up with a nifty way to create ANY blaster a month or so ago. It's pretty neat, and offers a few damage options, so they can scale with the grittieness of the campaign. here it is:

Sure, that would be cool. But you might want to wait for d20 Modern to come out, so that you can assign Purchase DCs, as it would most likely be used with d20 Modern rules. (or it would if I used it, anyway.)
