Spiritual Weapon and the Full Attack

Quidam

First Post
Spiritual Weapon can get multiple attacks due to high BAB. If the target of the spiritual weapon moves, does the spiritual weapon then have to move during its turn and if so, does it then only get a single attack? Does it just automatically stick to its target, moving when it moves, so it always gets a full attack each round?

I would say that a Spiritual Weapon gets its full attacks if its target moves, as long as it stays within range (Medium, 100 ft. + 10 ft./level).

Each round after the first, you can use a move action to redirect the weapon to a new target. If you do not, the weapon continues to attack the previous round’s target. On any round that the weapon switches targets, it gets one attack. Subsequent rounds of attacking that target allow the weapon to make multiple attacks if your base attack bonus would allow it to. Even if the spiritual weapon is a ranged weapon, use the spell’s range, not the weapon’s normal range increment, and switching targets still is a move action.
Since ranged weapons can only attack once per round if you switch targets, I'd say that melee weapons can also make a full attack even if the target moves.

The thing with the move action refers to spiritual weapon, not to ranged attacks. You can switch your target as often as you want.

Right :o, what I *meant* was, since a Spiritual Weapon in the form of a ranged weapon can only attack once per round when switching targets, when an actual ranged weapon is not limited in this manner, I would say that a Spiritual Weapon in the form of a melee weapon can make a full attack even if the target moves, when an actual melee weapon would normally not be able to do so.
