Spotlight Interview: John Rogers on the Manual of the Planes

Right, Jackie Chan adventures was great, but you're looking at his range and seeing dilution. You should be looking at his range and seeing versatility - not simply in genre but in doing the best writing for a wide variety of bizarre circumstances of production, project, and effort.

The two most important scripts have also gotten a miss in the thread thus far:

The New Blue Beetle Comic - which was freaking phenomenal. Took the superhero genre into a part of the country that it had never gone before, kept the spiderman feel while correcting the spiderman flaws (put your family before your guilt), and gave the superhero a complicated interesting relationship with his powers.

The Core - took a real sow's ear and made it into a delightful silk purse. It's got some cool/cheesy science horror to it - no! not the pigeons - but what it really is is a very fun journey to the center of the earth movie for people who actually read science magazines.

This.

I wish my resume was half as varied and interesting :(.

Between the interview and the preview, I am definately looking forward to seeing more of what John has done with the Feywild, would also like to give kudos' to whoever it is at Wizards that is willing to look outside the company and established industry writers to find new talent. I think this kind of thinking will help keep 4e fresh for a long while to come.

Jackie Chan IS just a kid's show that you're expected to grow out of.

Then again, that sounds suspiciously like what a lot of people think D&D is...

I didn't even mention the Story Hour stuff on here, because I don't go there or even really know what that section of the forums is, so leave it alone and safe from me and my opinions.

So, you've made half the posts in this thread, and yet take pride in remaining ignorant about something that's a click away on these very forums that might enlighten you? No wonder you're so quick to take offense when others have differing opinions.

May I suggest you stop posting in this thread, and perhaps start a new thread about your preferred qualifications in a screenwriter or game writer? Meanwhile, those that are interested can pop over and enjoy Drunk Southern Girls with Guns and decide for themselves if John has any RPG credentials...

Indeed, check out Drunk Southern Girls with Guns. While I look at the work Jon-Rog has done for Hollywood and cringe inside, I must say that he sounds like a fantastic DM and he gives great story-hour. The man can do D&D like nobody's business, and I'm ecstatic that he worked on MotP. :)

EDIT: Ignore earlier bit, saw later that the discussion had been dropped.

Love John's stuff. I thought Transformers was a good flick (for what it was; it certainly looks better than what's coming for G.I.Joe), and I loved his work on Blue Beetle. Glad to see that he went from playtesting 4e to actually writing for it; I think the man has a good imagination.
