Sprawling Shadows, Evil Race: The Grimmok is now available for just $0.99 at www.rpgnow.com!

Evil Race: The Grimmok is the first product in the Sprawling Shadows line, available exclusively from Grell Head Studios. In this mini PDF, you will find everything that players and DM's will need to integrate the hell-spawned Grimmok into their campaigns. This comprehensive guide to the Grimmok includes an exciting two-page history, colorful custom illustrations, and game-related information detailing the Grimmok personality, physical description, inter-racial relations, alignment, lands, religion, language, common names, adventures, and racial traits. Due to the complexity of the Grimmok and its many combinations of subraces, Evil Race: The Grimmok is actually a source book of twenty new races in one! For just $0.99 you get the complete, nine-page, full color PDF publication, as well as an eight-page printer friendly version.

$1 PDFs

Please let me know how well this does for you. I had considered releasing the Poison Guide as a $1 PDF and then decided to make it free.

If anyone has opinions about $1 PDFs please scream out. I'd like to get a feel for what I should do the next time I have a very short (10 pages or so) PPF -- sell or give away.

Well, my OPINIONS on the benefits of $1 mini-PDF's are as follows... the reality of their success is yet to be seen:

Smaller Downloads: Whereas a 300+ page PDF can reach upwards of 20mb, the mini PDF's, for the most part, will be less than 1mb.

More for your Buck: There is less concern for page count and file size in a mini PDF. Therefore, we can include larger print, better art, and more information concerning each topic. We can afford to improve the overall depth and quality of every subject.

Selectivity: Many seasoned RPG'ers are thoroughly attached to a particular campaign setting. You might be interested in new races, classes, feats or spells... but have no desire to pay $12 for a complete campaign world that you'll never visit. With mini PDF's, you can purchase the specific topics that you want, and they're only $0.99!!

Steady Stream of Releases: Large source books and supplements take many months to produce. With mini PDF's, there will always be a new product "coming soon".

Those are the reasons I have listed on my web site. In addition to the consumer benefits, as a publisher, it's just plain easier on SO many levels to work with a smaller publication.

The only downside I can see is that, over the course of time, the consumer might end up paying more for multiple mini-products than they would for a single, comprehensive source book. However, this expense is spread out over a long period of time, and they can also pick and choose what they want to buy. When it comes right down to it, for any given purchase.... it's just a buck!

Now... as for sales figures? Sold one within 10 minutes of going on sale in the middle of the night. We'll see what happens from here on out!

The last time I tried to price something the rpgnow customer service rep that had to list it, wanted me to upgrade my price to $4.95 or more. Its only recently that we've been abel to get back down to lower prices. Who knows what that may do with rpgnow sales.

I imagine that 2 $3.00 items work well for people, since the customer is looking around for another thing to buy to break the $5 mark. $1 is probably an impulse buy to tag on the end of anothe sale.

Exactly! If a few people pick it up for no reason other than the fact that it costs a buck, then at least there are a few new people that have been exposed to our work. Hopefully, they'll like it and look forward to the next publication!
