Spread the Scarred Lands Gospel (MASSIVE SPOILERS)

Scarred Land if a more fantasy world with human nature applied to it. Everything is not clean nor happy mealish, it has a rawness about it that has been lacking in other game worlds.

To answer your question, what kind of campaigns you could run on Scarrn, her is mine in a nutshell:

Very cool campaign, Roderick. You might want to put a Spoiler warning there. My players don't read the thread, but they'll have some interactions with Virdruk and his queen, and I don't want her big secret revealed too easily. Others might have the same dilemma.

BTW, are you writing this into a Story Hour? It'd be a good read.

Have to admit, Ruined, I'd love to see another SL fanfic and I think yours, Roderick, has some REAL potential. :)

As for filling in the gaps, best way to do that perhaps introduce a FIFTH interested party in Silver Knights. They are certainly would have a vested interest in keeping outsiders from invading. Perhaps they could persuade the characters to aid them in small side trek near the Gascars and/or deep into Titanshome Mountains. Believe me, I think it could be worthwhile since it could lead to another Slacerian relic hidden deep within that's been held by Thulkans.

I was just thinking about something. We already have the Unhallowed for use of powerful undead...but what about something more familiar, like Death Knight? I'm pretty sure MM2 won't be in the SRD JUST yet...but perhaps with Tome of Horrors, we could have something like that. Demonic Knights COULD be a product of Vangal's vengeance on those faithless knights that didn't serve well...so he turns them into undead as part of his wicked ways. Anyway just some thoughts.

Hey Nightfall, I think you could paste this text whenever this question is posted here.

I don't think so. Most of those points are relatively minor when it comes to what I think is cool about SL.

I think that the coolest thing about scarred lands is that it builds on D&D and uses all the important conventions, but somehow doesn't fall into the same patterns. For example, the roles of clerics versus druids in the scarred lands is distinct and meaningful, yet different than any other setting. In SL, an evil, destructive druid makes sense, as does a sympathetic one. Also, the alignment system is used, but some conflicts transcend alignment, and oft times your best ally may be the servant of an evil god.

And that's cool.

The way I sum up why I like Scarred Lands and currently run a group in and may be starting another is.....

Different, but same. -- Mr Miagi from Karate Kid.

(sounds of screaming)

I'm DMing and PCs aren't big enough geeks to come to a message board but can ANYbody edit this thread title to say MASSIVE SPOILERS!
Its a cool story but any player who looks at it will probably have a significant chunk of the metaplot disrupted. I've been very pleased that a lot of the big secrets of the setting (Geleeta's true nature, the Slarecians powers).

Some minor quibiles:
Arcane magic is not Titan Magic. And divine magic is not strictly from the gods.

In each epoch of pre-history a different Titan was ascendent, supposedly. Thulkas' druids were apparently some kind of fire-weilders while Mesos' were probably sorcerors.
I think that Denev is ascendent as an aspect now which is why Scarn is slowly healing and druids are nature oriented. Druids who worship/serve the titans are, in fact, using divine magic.

Arcane Magic:
Mesos had a lot of reality bending powers he touched a handful of races and individuals and they also bear sorcerous blood. This is the origin of socerery in the Scarred Lands.
During his epoch (the previous epoch to the current one) there were also those who studied and understood his magic to the degree that their little minds could. THe druids of Mesos' time were wizards of various sorts. This corresponds, btw, to several of the greatest magical empires which were known of prior to the begining of the divine war. Mesos' epoch when he was rent and scattered about Scarn.
The pervasive nature of "that which was Mesos" is what wizards and sorcerors are now tapping into when they cast spells. There's a bit of metaplot about this in the Divine and the Defeated too.
Arcane magic isn't seen as being Titan magic (though in my game some people think Sorcerors are definitely tainted). However the idea that arcane magic or items are titanic (urg not my best word choice) isn't prevalent, any more than a farmer thanks Madriel for her sun or a traveler Denev for the tree that gives them shade.

Last note: The Slarecians being psionic is actually pretty much stated in the Divine and the Defeated.

Oh and I think Roderick did point something out useful: Maybe people want to talk about their games specifically (maybe without the spoilers...)

Grraf,

I do agree, arcane magic isn't necessary Titan Magic. After all the defeat of Mesos didn't destroy arcane magic. As for Divine magics, I prefer to classfify more like "Godly magics" and "Titan Magics" Thus keeping the distinction between the gods and Titans fairly clear.

I too wish this had a spoiler warning but I didn't start this thread. I merely add to it. :)

As for discussing our games, perhaps some one should start a Scarred Land Dm talk about about their games for as email list.

As requested, I put a spoiler warning in the threat title. I'm still waffling back and forth (and I haven't started talking with my players yet) but you've all been helpful.
