Once again, nothing of interest occurs, the spring festivals go off without any noteworthy incidence and people's fears have more or less abated. Still, the Ranger patrols maintain their vigil with the druids should the grove of Fury be trying to lull them into a false sense of security, they refuse to be caught off guard once again.

Spring is once again slow to break in the Alderlands, and in the northernmost lands near Schwartzburg, the ground never thaws enough to plow. Although the Schwartzburg Bridge is now the strongest-defended point in the kingdom outside the capital, the citizens are wary - the river, usually fast and strong exiting Lake Valdorane, nearly froze over the winter. If the river were to freeze entirely, there would be no way to defend against an onslaught of giants.
In the capital, Franz Rouchmarch and his assembled wizards, sorcerors, and alchemists are given a guarded building just off the Kaiser's Plaza, and found the Dumeldein Brotherhood of Alchemists. Their stated objective is clear: pool knowledge and work, for the benefit of the kingdom and the Kaiser. In practice, however, it seems much more vague. The Brotherhood is only loosely bound; most of the members still maintain mercantile practices, selling everything except their alchemical fire just as they had before. All fire, however, is snapped up and disributed to the army.
The kingdom breathes a quiet sigh of relief, however, as word escapes from Thoradur that the invading frost giants have fallen to bickering among themselves. The great chief is ill, and different factions within the giants are nearly coming to blows as the succession is in question.

Spring planting goes extremely well and a bumper crop of Goblin slave births have been recorded. This bodes well for the Ulruz military and agricultural efforts in coming years.

One small city was actually taken over by a polymorphed Drow wizard, but was exposed by passing adventurers and seized by a royal Inquisitor to pillage the Drow's mind and find any other infiltrators.

A more normal spring season was had this year compared to last. Rumors of the ruling class of the kings nobles seem to be all smiles. They know something or have been promised something that is elating them. Rumors abound, but the common thought is that the war will finally be done with this year. How that is accomplished is a close guarded secret.

Caedmon
With the recession of the winter, work on The Northgate continues. There is still no sign of an attack by the giant forces, so a small group is sent to investigate.
This group reports back, and the report is alarming. Though there is evidence that there were large groups of giants to the north, their camps have been abandoned. No signs were found as to what caused this evacuation, it seemed as if the giants simply left.
This unusual report, rather than allaying fears, actually heightens them. What could have caused the giants to leave, when they were obviously prepared to attack? There is much debate about this, and it is decided that The Northgate is to be completed as soon as possible and other, larger, forces are to be sent north to investigate. Field Marshall Torin and General Ingmar both agree that an expeditionary force would be best sent in the summer.
In other matters the kingdom continues on in a mostly normal fashion. This year’s class at The Academy is preparing for their final exams and their appointments to positions inside and out of Caedmon. Prince Eldynon is working hard and anxious for his own graduation two years hence.
The two-year-old Prince Carrick and Princess Enelya are doing well and if not for the mysteries to the north King Dolan is doing well also. Queen Telenessa is relieved to find that the two children are well behaved and learning quickly.

KINRISAR
The Festival of Light is celebrated across all of Kinrisar in grand fashion. The Alchemists Guild has spent the last season in preparation for the ceremonies and each of the cities of the kingdom are lit by the fireworks of their design. Feasts and celebrations are held by each of the major and minor houses leading up to the grand feast hosted by King Hadri and Queen Allianna. During this feast it is announced that Prince Tan'il, son of Hadri and Allianna, will have two great events in his life in the coming year. He will begin his tutelage under a Warmaster of Caedmon to learn the military arts on his 5th birthday. He will also be joined with a sibling in the middle of the year, the Queen is pregnant. The joy of the second announcement floods the kingdom with happiness and cheer.
More serious business takes place in the court following the festival. The rewards and retributions are administered to the various houses for their actions in the past year. Minor houses are elevated in status to major houses, minor houses are discredited from the court and two major houses are demoted to minor standing. The houses who stood beside the king during his latest policy changes saw the most benefit. Those that opposed him were not openly punished, but saw rivals gain where they did not.
The western ocean is active with pirates. Tales of the island natives and the pirate city of Cliffport in the Sharktooth Archipelago are told across the wharves of the western cities. Crolon tongues talk of the merchant lady Alistra Karnom and her tough dealing with these pirates. It is rumored that her ship, the Avonia, raided Cliffport and brought one of the more notorious pirate captains to final justice. Of course, tales grow taller each telling...
The winter breaks somewhat late this year and the yearly promise of new life is seen all across the lands. Talina's cycle is seen to start anew as her moon grows larger each month. It is a time of great optimism.

The Queen's health continues to decline and the Prince is required to take on more duties. The whole kingdom holds it's breath waiting in uncertainty about Her health.
The goblins to the south take the news as a reason to attack, figuring that maybe the elves guard is down. This notion is quickly squashed and the goblins retreat with their tails between their legs.
The thaw comes later this year, but the sailors are eager to be away form the kingdom and begin trading. A few nasty late winter storms challenge a few of the sterner elven convoys, but only a human ship is reported lost.
