[Spycraft: SFA] Psionic skills...

Pbartender

First Post
So I was looking through the Shadowforce Archer book yesterday. I'm afraid I don't have the book here, and don't remember the exact wording, but the Basic Psionic feats (like Metabolic Basics, etc...) say something like, "the character may purchase ranks in [Specific class of psionic skills] skills as class skills."

So, does that mean:

1. Those skills are always class skills.

2. Those skills are class skills when you gain a level in any psionic class, but cross class for non-psionic levels.

3. Those skills are class skills for that particular psionic class (Mentalist, Physical Adept or Telepath) only, and cross-class for everything else.

Personally, I'd suspect #3, but the book doesn't specify.

My hunch would be # 3 as well. Try heading over to the Spycraft boards at www.alderac.com/forum. Morgenstern is the mechanics lead for the game line and is usually around pretty often answering questions about the rules in the Control forum.

Yeah, I had stopped by there before, but it looks like the server is down or busy right now, so I can't register.

Did a search on the AEG boards for Psionic AND class AND skills, and found this...

Greetings,

To clarify: yes, when you take a psionic "basics" skill feat, you gain access to a number of -psionic- skills which are thereafter always considered class skills for that agent. They are considered class skills regardless of the class the agent enters in the future, including if he begins to take levels in a non-psion class. This is deliberate and intentional. -Psion- skills are also listed seperately in NPC write-ups because while they are handled as skills (cost skill points, use skill check rules) they are still a little bit different than normal skills. They are both a skill and a "power" so from an in-setting perspective whena player assigns more skill points to a psion skill, the agent may see it as "I've trained hard at this and am getting stronger" or he might percieve it as "hmm, my powers are growing stronger..." or some combination of the two. (on that basis I will also be ruling shortly on Mischief's pointman lead ability and psion skills shortly, and I expect it to be a negative response.)

As to the the Pointman's versitility class ability, the texting of that ability is intended to indicate that the agent is adding skills to the class skill list of that class as it pertains to him. The pointman class skills list is deliberately shorter than is should be so that the individual agent "write's his own class" somewhat, but this does not follow him around when he multiclasses out to another class. Pretend the pointman's class skills list has some blank lines at the bottom and the player penciled in his choices and it may make more sense .

Hope this helps,

That's about as official as it gets. Psion skills, once you get them, are always considered class skills, no matter what class you advance in.
