interesting to see what comes up. AFAIK both companies don't have overlapping dept's except for marketing, sales, etc. That and the CEO of square is taking over so FF will NEVER die! MUHAHAHAHHAHAHA!! Beyond that everything is kosher for me...I see no qualms in this..

This is a good gig for both sides. Square lost alot of money, but still has great sucesses on the video game side. FF Online will be/is really cool. I have no issues. Final Fantasy is far too valuable to let go.

I wonder if the alleged "Megaton" announcement forthcoming from Nintendo in December has any ties to this merger. Hm. The latest rumor on that subject, though, is that the 'Cube will drop to $100 MSRP this holiday season, so perhaps not...

where'd it lose allot of money? The only place i know they lost their shirt was in the FF the movie..it did poorly but it was a wonder of technology to come...

Square is generally in the black each year, but they lost A LOT from that horrible, horrible movie... close to 110 million, from what I heard.

Square was in the red last year, they have a new president and now the buyout. Things were not going financially well for Square obviously. Even with the FF franchise being what it is I guess they made some bad business choices. This deal sounds really good to me as an RPG fan. :)

Looking back over the recent news, this merger really isn't that much of a surprise. Before this, Namco, Enix, and Square had all bought 5% in each other's stock, and had worked hard to strengthen ties between themselves. Given that, my main question is where does Namco fit into the picture now?

That said, its interesting that even though Enix is the one absorbing Square, the president of Square now will lead the new company, Square Enix.

As one of the last great Nintendo die-hards, Im hoping and praying that the "Megaton" announcement from Nintendo involves this somehow (it would be the right time, since it'd be several months before the merger, which takes place on April Fool's Day, which, poetically, is the first day of the new fiscal year). Despite the new president of Nintendo previously uttering harsh criticism at what he saw of FFXI, new plans like FF Tactics for GBA and FF Crystal Chronicles seem like a good sign for the future (especially considering Nintendo has also been doing some recent business with Enix...love those Dragon Quest games for Game Boy).
