My screen right now is the 3.5 reference sheets (Player, DM, Magic, Campaign) printed on cardstock.
Do you think you'd have a problem DMing without the screen? I dumped the DM Screen concept very quickly and have always been much happier without it.

I really just need a reference for those niggly rules that I'd rather just overrule. I find thumbing through the PHB much worse.

I started working on my own screen today but I ended up just thinking about how to use the RPG I wrote last year instead of D&D E6 style for the base of my current campaign (which is all of 3 sessions). But I'm reluctant to utter that kind of blasphemy within earshot of all those who are inspired by E6, especially considering how much I've pimped it lately.

Use computer-base resources and go with a lower resolution. :)

if you have a pc, go with a higher resolution,

under display settings go to advanced. under general, click on large size 120 dpi.

under display, go to appearance, click on use large icons, and under smooth edges, turn on clear type.

Now you have all the benefits of a high rez monitor, and nice sized icons and smooth crisp fonts.

macs have these settings on by default i think.

There are DM screens out there that basically are blank (with pretty pictures) and plastic sleeves, into which you insert pages. Presumably, you could print whatever you need, at the font size you need, on those pages. Obviously, with a higher font size, you would need to prioritize as to what goes on the screen.

Exactly what I did for my 3.0 Darksun screen. I decided which info I needed most and sized it according to need and quickness required. Small print/boxes were saved for stuff that rarely used.

The size of your work area may be a factor, but I also created a six "page" screen vs the four you get. More size = more space for larger print info. (a paperclipped notes of what to do and NPC's traits and the such).
