Stacking levels for a Paladin

Howdy all!

Have a question and was hoping for some other opinions.

I have a player who will be coming into a solo campaign as a Paladin 5/Annointed Knight 3/Vassal of Bahamut 3. In the campaign, the LG God is also the creator of the goodly dragons and referred to as Bahamut and has several qualities of dragons assigned to him.

My question is this: should I allow the AK and VoB PrC levels to stack with the Paladin levels in terms of Laying on Hands and Mount? Normally I wouldn't, but this is a solo campaign and while the PC will have NPC support, there will be times she is out there on her own or with my "PC" (and old PC in his game that will be continuing into this game).

The player is certainly not a power game and is a truly indepth role-player. My concern is, would this in any way be too overpowering? His mount (a celestial wyvern) would serve as further support, especially against those pesky henchmen, and the lay on hands will help when a cleric isn't around.

Any opinions are welcome. Thanks!

The first thing that came to my mind is that paladins don't get much at the higher levels of their class. In fact they don't get anything new past 6th level, when they get their remove disease ability. After this all their abilities simply increase. What this means in terms of the character is that, by allowing the PrCs to stack with paladin levels, he gets the benefits of increased paladin levels and his PrCs.

Since it really is only a game with two players, though, the CRs will be skewed. So, if you feel he needs these abilities to survive, then sure. Maybe you want to make it so that the paladin's abilities increase at half the rate, or a third the rate, so that every second level in one of his PrCs his paladin abilities increase. Or, perhaps, you might just want to increase his character levels, so he has more levels in paladin.

In a solo game, there's no such thing as overpowered. If your paladin winds up walking over the encounters, all you have to do is add more critters. Balance is only an issue with multiple players, really.

Thanks all.

I think I will stack the VoB levels with the mount since a wyvern can been seen as a lesser form of a dragon. I can see how that PrC could stack with such an ability with such a creature.

As for the Lay on Hands, I might stack that with the Annointed Knight just as a little extra umph because it might well be needed. From everything I've seen, there is no "overpowering" in a solo game, as Pendragon said.

Have a good weekend everyone.
