Maybe I have a stale, but macabre, dark sense of humor, but it looks like a set of master plans to spread and convert the pagans into the Church of d20-ology.

Hmm. Trying to teach the basic roleplaying concept of D&D. That would be a long rough road ahead considering that it is rules-heavy, and yet gamers in 1998-1999 did not want the game to be "dumbed-down" or simplified.

BTW, is Wizards going to revive TSR's ... uh ... "choose-your-own path" adventure novel line (or somesuch)?

One more thing ... shouldn't Wizards at least once make a commercial promoting D&D? And I don't mean product placement, like they did in the GE commercial and in the final episode of Buffy. I remembered them airing Magic: The Gathering commercials even though they no longer do so in my area, but not once did they aired a D&D commercial, IIRC.

Do you think the cost would be justified?

Or maybe internet advertising in areas frequented by younger surfers, maybe this MTV comment for for online advertising rather than a traditional commercial?

Box Set

I don't care about's actually in it...I want to buy this just to put it on my shelf. A D&D Box set. Never thought I would see the day, again.

Darn it, they missed the $19.95 price point!

I know the mini's themselves retail for $20.00, but there's a line of separation for impulse buys - and $20 is typically the magic number in the U.S. $25 ain't bad, but the majority of people buying it are going to be already in the hobby, I'm willing to bet. It really needs to be $20, and it needs to be in Wal-mart brick-and-mortar stores!

'Course, if Wal-mart discounts it, that's a different story... :) But this is a gateway product, and as such if they need to take a small loss on it, then that's what they need to do - as they did when selling the 3.0 core books.

I agree completely. The Star Wars Adventure game -- a total steal given the free unique action figure inside -- is what pulled me back into roleplaying. I was hoping the price would be a bit lower for this. (Not for my sake, but for the kids it's targeted at.)

Ah well, at least it's cheaper than a video game!
