I started reading the New Jedi Order books when they first came out and I loved the series. Thought it was quite interesting and well done. Despite loving the series I stopped reading for quite a while. Pretty much stopped reading novels period for almost a year and a half. Just recently started doing some hard core reading again in the past few months. I have been considering getting back into the New Jedi Order, but am kind of stumped because I can not remember where I left off. Now my question is:

How should I do this?

A) Just pick up the most recent novel and jump back into the series.
B) Pick up all the books again starting with the first?

Any helpful thoughts or comments? Most likely I will go with option B since I recently rejoined the SciFi Book Club and can get a bunch of the novels in Hard Cover for a halfway decent price. Anyways thanks for taking the time to read this.

Edit: Just realized I forgot to mention that I can not find any of the NJO novels anywhere in any of my boxes.

Stop reading them.

After book six or eight ot ten or whatever it was, I just could'n't stand to think about another book with the New Jedi Order.

If you (and this is the plural you of any reader) LOVE Star Wars and have to have your updates, it's going to be okay but if you like the traditional stuff, the stuff with Empire resurgents, strange super weapons, dipliomatic communications, the wonder of exploration, then this is NOT for you.

Personally what I remember enjoying about the NJO books was that this was a new turn for the setting. The New Republic was at war. Personally for me it was nice to see something different in the Star Wars universe rather than the same old Super Weapon of the Week.

So far none of the prequal era novels, other than the Darth Maul one, have really grabbed me at all.

You should start over from the beginning. The series is near the end, so option A won't get you very far. Plus there is continuity to worry about. Each book makes references to the previous ones, so if you jump in, parts of the new books may not make sense. TheForce.net has an unofficial site set up, so you can get a better view of where the series is.

I voted for start of from the beginning, or I would have if I wasn't an idiot who click on the wrong option and click on submit to quickly, though what I'd really suggest is stopping in a store and figuring out where you left off and picking up from there.

I just read my first NJO book the otherday because I saw the name of a new but talented fantasy writer on it. Mathew Stover. He wrote the "Traitor" book which was excellent....but I haven't read the others.

I have considered the option of trying to figure out where I have left off, but so far have not had much in the way of luck. Going to a book store is not an option as I do not have a chance to get out to them very often. I think the last time I managed to get to a book store and spend anytime there was last year sometime. 98% of my book purchases are made online. I have looked over the titles and they all look familiar to me, as do the descriptions. This is mainly due to the fact back when I was big into the NJO I kept up on what was coming out and all. Thanks for the thought though. :)

Then I stand by the prevailing sentiment of "start over from the beginning," if you're at all like me within ten seconds of starting to read the book you'll know if you've read it before.

Quite likely, but if I start the book I'm going to have to finish it. Probably not a bad idea to start over anyways and refresh my memory. Looks like come next paycheck I will be spending like $115 on the SciFi Book Club. They had like 10-11 of them in hard cover (as all books are from them). Have to check on that when I get home.

Its worth it to start from the beginning. That way, things will be fresh in your mind as you go through. Its definatly a nice change from the 'traditional' Star Wars...much more 'realistic' to me. Vector Prime, Star By Star, Balance Point, Traitor, and the entire Force Heretic Trilogy(especially Reunion) are some of the best Star Wars novels.

:)
