Star Wars: Plot kernels, a/k/a HELP!

You pay attention to amazon.com 'reviews'? Dark Lord isn't 'utter crap'.
You say that as if I slapped your mom or something. I'm just asking a question, and since you seem to have an opinion and are a mature adult (?), I guessed you could give me your view. Sheesh.

I also have the Last of the Jedi books--yes, all of them--and will be receiving the Dark Times comics in the mail shortly.

OK. But the Rise of the Empire era as used by Lucas Licensing is 1000 to 0 BBY.
Again with the attitude. Jeez, I'm just trying to narrow the playing field for the request I made--I have no intentions to run a game prior to Order 66, nor do I want to run a game after Luke arrives on the Death Star.

You're misreading my attitude completely. I'm just surprised anyone would give much credence to those 'reviews', and letting you know what the Rise of the Empire era actually is to help avoid future confusion.

Regarding reviews, I suppose I consider myself one of the unwashed masses. Besides, I have so many books and so very little free time (and a tendency to fall asleep when I read) that I need to be a bit selective when I purchase.

I take it you liked The Rise of Darth Vader then.

Somewhat. I like James Luceno's work, though I liked this one less than Cloak of Deception and Labyrinth of Evil. I think it's a good Star Wars novel. Depends what you're after.

It's finite time that makes those 'reviews' such a waste of it, in my opinion. You have to wade through dozens to find one with some articulacy and the self-knowledge not to simply project their preferences and idiosyncrasies onto the book -- even the pros do that -- and then you probably can't derive enough about the person's frame of reference to calibrate it for yours. And the average ratings (4/5 in Dark Lord's case, as it happens) are useless because of the unknowable vagaries of who posts them and why; they just don't correlate much with what I think of things.
