[Star Wars SAGA] Looking for a specific build...

First Post
Going to be starting a new Saga game soon, and there was a character build I saw on these boards awhile ago I really liked. The main advantage was that when you hit an opponent with an attack, it knocked them down the condition track like 3 or 4 steps (with one attack). It used a combination of talents, feats and abilities to do this. I can't remember the build, but it wasn't Jedi. I think maybe Soldier or Scout or Scoundrel (or some combination thereof).

If anyone knows of such a build, can they please post it?

I'm not sure exactly how you'd put it all together, but you'd want some of the following talents

Scoundrel
- Dastardly Strike (successful atk on someone denied ref def pushes them down -1 step on the track)

Soldier
-Devastating attack (efffectively reduces target's damage threshould by 5)

Bounty Hunter
- Hunter's Mark (if you Aim, -1 cond track on a hit)

Elite Trooper
-Greater Devastating attack (efffectively reduces target's damage threshould by 10)

Gunslinger
- Debilitating Shot (if you Aim, -1 cond track on a hit)

You'd probably take the Careful Shot and Deadeye feats as most of the talents rely on Aiming anyway and you want to make sure you're going to beat their threshhold on a hit (though Devestating attack, and especially greater devestating attack go a long way there). Everything else is just meeting the prerequs for three PrCs. I'm sure there's a way to manage a fourth track push, but I don't remember it.

Dunno the specific build you're talking about, but it's not that hard to do by the mid levels:

Soldier -> Devastating Attack (damage threshold 5 lower)
Scoundrel -> Dastardly Strike (flat-footed foe automatically suffers -1 condition penalty)
Soldier -> Melee Smash + Stunning Strike (+1 damage to melee attacks; any melee attack that moves a target down the condition track moves him one extra level down)

By 6th level you could have:
1/ Soldier 1 -- Martial Arts I, Weapon Focus (unarmed) -- Melee Smash
2/ Scoundrel 1 -- Point Blank Shot -- Dastardly Strike
3/ Soldier 2 -- Rapid Strike, Skill Training (deception)
4/ Soldier 3 -- Stunning Attack
5/ Soldier 4 -- Martial Arts II
6/ Soldier 5 -- Running Attack -- Devastating Attack (unarmed)
7/ Solider 6 -- Martial Arts III
...
Next, take Weapon Specialization (unarmed), and then go into Elite Trooper for Greater Devastating Attack and Greater Weapon Specialization (unarmed)

- - -

Alternately, Gunslinger:
1/ Scoundrel 1 -- Point Blank Shot, Precise Shot, Running Attack -- Dastardly Strike
2/ Scoundrel 2 -- Quick Draw
3/ Scoundrel 3 -- Skill Focus (deception) -- Sneak Attack +1d6
4/ Soldier 1 -- Proficiency (rifles) -- Devastating Attack (pistols)
5/ Scoundrel 4 -- Deadeye
6/ Scoundrel 5 -- Sniper -- Sneak Attack +2d6
7/ Soldier 2 -- Rapid Shot
8/ Gunslinger 1 -- Debilitating Shot
9/ Gunslinger 2 -- Careful Shot
10/ Gunslinger 3 -- Deceptive Shot

If you Aim, you deal extra damage. Or you can make a "ranged Feint" with 2 Swift actions and deal extra damage. Either attack hitting *will* move your target at least one condition level -- but they stack. If you Aim at and hit a flat-footed target, you *will* move him down at least two.

Stun Setting. If it beats the damage threshold then the target automatically moves two steps down the condition track.
With the mentioned talents, you can shoot a guy in the surprise round and knock him out.

Combine this with a Jedi buddy who uses Force Stun a lot and you can take out a rancor in two attacks, during the surprise round.
I encouraged two party members to use just that combination to deal with exactly that problem.
Shortest fight ever.
Surprised the hell out of the new party members, all melee damage builds, all really worried over having to fight a rancor. The GM, on the other hand, wasn't surprised at all.

Although I really like Nifft's kung-fu killer (mis-named, I know, since he merely knocks folks out with a quick jab to the face).

That's the tame version. The "OH GOD PLEASE NO" version is specialized in Simple weapons, so he can do terrifying damage with bayonets, stun batons, and grenades. :]

(The same awesome combo also applies to Heavy weapons, which have grenade launchers and repeating blasters, but it's a bit less of a surprise.)

Thanks Nifft, I like both those builds. Quick question...

If I were to also dip into Bounty Hunter and pick up Hunter's Mark, would that stack with Debilitating Shot? They both require Aimed shots, but if I am Aiming, do they both kick in?

Yes, and good call. :)

Another idea...

For the melee build. If I use a Force Pike on Stun, and hit someone with it, and I also have the Stunning Strike talent, would that move someone down 3 steps on the condition track (assuming I hit their damage threshold)? I can't find anywhere that states these two effects can't be combined...

Yes, of course! Stun weapons are great. Remember that Stun Grenades are also Simple weapons, if you go the Simple weapon specialist route.
