I know this is an older thread but I just had to add my two cents worth. Triple Ace Games came up with an amazing line of products called Daring Tales of [Insert Genre Here]. And a VERY Star Wars-esque set is Daring Tales of the Space Lanes http://www.tripleacegames.com/brands/daring-tales-of-the-space-lanes/ This is pretty much Star Wars with the numbers filed off. I've had some success running it. And the setting rules are free. The adventures are great too. Have a look.
Thanks for that, Daelkyr. After I started this thread I went back through my SW products and noticed a couple of those there. Anyway, we're back to 4E again so I'll just put this on my RPG Bucket List.
WE ran Star Wars using Savage Worlds. It suits it very well and some of the 3rd party stuff is excellent.
We went on to develop our own 'advancement' of Savage Worlds (using ideas from other systems), called "Bashed & Borrowed". Here is a link to a lot of Star Wars Species I wrote up for this system: http://defa.wikidot.com/species. I know people don't often follow links, but I am sure you might like what you see.
I have JUST started another Star Wars game to try out the Cypher System. Running it for my son and 2 friends and they liked it. It ran very well. Starship combat - I could 'make-up' stats on the fly, based purely on level of ships.
