Star Wars: Starfighter

(and probably doesn't pay crazy money the way villain roles for middle-aged and older male actors sometimes have).

I am not an industry insider by any means, but I would expect joining an established franchise like SW or MCU is a little bit about betting on long term income instead of a big up front payout. Even if you're not the star, there are opportunities for sequel options, voice overs, video games, residuals, conventions, etc.

I'm not saying it's a one way ticket to riches, of course. But outside of the huge stars, a lot of Hollywood is very feast-or-famine for income. A Star Wars role could be a ticket to breaking that cycle.

The issue, I think, is that unless that pays off, you may have done more damage to your career overall than just not appearing in the movie.

And so far Star Wars looks like a far worse bet than the MCU. I think it'd be a lot easier to say yes to the MCU! Unless you and your agent/manager are of the opinion superhero stuff is "on the way out" - but I suspect if Thunderbolts* and Avengers: Doomsday work out (and especially if the F4 movie somehow works out!) then the MCU may, and I say this with a great deal of caution, maaaaay be kind of back on track. At least for a few years.

Of course Starfighter could be the first movie of Star Wars getting back on track but that's a lot more uncertain, I'd say.

Also, after you do your MCU movie, you will be in the best shape of your life, for at least a short period of time, which can open up other doors, personally and professionally. Wearing 10 pounds of Twilek tentacles on your head doesn't seem like it has the same sorts of benefits, although your action figures are probably nicer.
