The problem was that Ford was "Token Black Guy #1." He had no real history, personality or driving goals. I guess the producers decided it was more difficult to work such things into his character, and went with a new one instead.

That sucks...the writers should get the blame for that. The actor is only working with the material given to him.

I really enjoyed this episode... except for the very ending. Geeze. At least have the consequences carry over to the beginning of the next episode, people!

That right there is everything wrong with modern TV. TOS and TNG did it right.
