Stargate SG-1 8th season opener

I liked it.

Re: being "The Man". I think Jack gets a bit of leeway for being a wiseguy. He is the core of the Stargate program and after a hard life and loss of his son, it's like he's become a bit unhinged and he expresses himself with a mild form of mania. If he were a normal Air Force officer he'd have been in trouble a long time ago, but he's proven himself so many times that they overlook his antics.

I didn't see RepliCarter (great name!) coming, but I'm pretty dense.

And the "what's with your hair" line was my favorite moment in the show.

All that being said, I hope they wrap things up this season. I'd rather it went out with a bang -- and a spinoff! -- than with a wimper.

I have to say it was a pretty good episode. I wish they hadn't just left the Baal plot thread dangling, or that maybe the two threads would have collided, but it was still pretty good. The best part was when Jack wakes up and says, "What did you do with your hair T'ilk?" and then a some seconds later asks him again. I am going to miss Jack, he is the best part of the show.

I think Hammond heading up the new Department of Homeworld Security, which oversees the various agencies associated with galactic defense, was waaaay better.

I'm guessing we'll find out in the first Atlantis episode, but let us speculate on [not such a spoiler but just in case]
who are the 11 countries who know about the alien attack on Earth?

I'm guessing
Russia, though they are already aware of the Stargate program,
Great Britain
France, though maybe this belongs under ESA, the European Space Agency
China
Japan
Canada, unless they already know from Norad
India
Pakistan
Brazil
other South American countries?
South Africa

What are your guesses?

I admit that at the end of Friday's episode, I could not help but wonder
which Carter was which
;) Whose to say that the
real Carter isn't still being held captive.

I had wondered that too, but
the asgard tell O'Neil and crew that they were picking up another humanoid signature in their area and it was my impression that the replicators (even humanoid ones) didn't give off those types of signatures
. So, I'm guessing there's no question as to which is which.

Well,
Russia, of course, since they've known since the Replicator attack in the season 3 premier. In season six's Disclosure the existance of the SGC is revealed to China, France and Britain. Then the question becomes of who has the available technological equipment for discovery. Japan, definately. Probably Germany. Australia? They have a lot of space surveillance stuff, right? Canada, India and Pakistan sound likely, too. I guess the USA could be seen as no. 11.

I really liked the episode for the most part.

Color me not a fan of Fifth or of the Replicators or the wiping out of the Asgard, all of which sum up probably the most rediculous plot point of the entire run.

Anyhoo. Definately solidly good an enjoyable. Only annoyance was that
Fifth was able to escape. I was kinda expecting this episode to finish the
Replicator plotline for good. While I salute the writers for their evolution
of the story, I'm not a big fan of the human-izing of the Replicators. You
know, after all the wonders it did for the Borg. I liked their overwhelming
sense of a 'force-of-nature'. While it may be in many ways a 'fitting end',
to the concept, it's not an ending I like to see stretched too much.

That said, I did enjoy this episode much more than I did the previous 'time-
dilation-device' one. The aspect of the episode I enjoyed the most, though,
is probably the political manuvering surrounding the Goa'uld meeting. I've
always especially enjoyed the political aspects of the show.

And yeah, what's the deal with Teal'c's hair?

I figure...

USA, Russia, France, China, England, Canada, Australia, Argentina, Chile, Japan, and New Zealand. One figures that a lot of nations that're actually close to the Antarctice would've noticed lights and explosions. Canada probably would've known through NORAD. Maybe replace Japan with South Africa?
