[Stargate SG-1] My Campaign

Before I run through my Stargate campaign idea, I have to thank both Eric Brennan and Tom McCambley. If they hadn't had their SG-1 threads on RPG.Net about a week ago, I wouldn't have had ideas to steal as a starting point for my own.

Stargate: SG-0

SG-0 is something new – completely different from the other teams run from the SGC. First, SG-0 is so top secret, even the other SG teams don’t know about it. Second, it isn’t based on Earth. And third, it has some unexpected and very powerful backers.
An alliance between the Tau’ri, Tok’ra, Tollans, and Asgard, SG-0 is a black ops team that exists to do those things that the other teams can not. Using a secretly-grown set of Tok’ra tunnels on the dark side of Earth’s moon for a base, they are ready to spring into the deadliest missions imaginable at less than a moment’s notice. The base is loaded with Asgard technologies to help mask and defend it, and it has one other surprise as well: its own Stargate, constructed by the Tollans.
While building and testing this new gates, the Tollans found something very interesting: instead of pressing only the Point Of Origin key at the end of a dialing sequence, if you are to press both the POO and the key closest on it right simultaneously, the gate behaves differently. When this new sequence is inputted, the “water” effect that fills the gate asa wormhole is established is not its usual blue, but is instead a dark purple/almost black color. The Asgard has investigated this occurrence and have learned that when the gate liquid is this black color, an individual must possess a specific genetic marker in order to pass through the gate safely. With this marker isolated, they and the Tok’ra immediately began work on synthesizing it for injection into SG-0 operatives.

First Mission:
A rogue Asgard has unearthed and stolen one of his race’s greatest secrets: the Goa’uld former System Lord Loki, trapped hostless in a tiny prison for thousands of years. When he free, Loki was the fiercest of all the Goa’uld that opposed the Asgard – and this rogue Asgard has made a deal with an secret sect of Loki’s Jaffa that will see the System Lord freed and returned to power. It’s up to SG-0 to stop this from happening and to bring this rogue Asgard to justice!

Other little things: Loki will end up possessing the body of the rogue Asgard, cause a Goa'uld in an Asgard is just neat. Also, one of the main reasons for the black gate is to eliminate the threat of pursuit through the gate without messing with an iris (anyone who tries to get through without the genetic marker is gonna get messed up BIG TIME!)

So, what do you all think?

Here's a little more I came up with thanks to some help from the RPG.Net guys...

The black Stargate functions very differently than other gates. Although the destination world must still have a Stargate, travellers do not actually arrive through the Gate itself. A wormhole is established as normal on the originating side, but on the other side there is no “flush” or fanfare. Instead, the Gate simply fills with black liquid for a few moments, then goes idle once more. There is one other difference in the black Gates that is likely the most significant: because of the different way the wormholes are established, travel through them actually occurs faster than regular gates, allowing travellers to actually re-materialize several klicks from the destination gate!
There is a downside to these new functions, however. Once a wormhole has been established, a minimum of 24 hours must pass before the gate has built enough energy reserves back up to establish another wormhole with. This means that SG-0 is on its own for a full day before it has the option of dialing back home. If they’re in really dire straits, they could simply dial the gate the normal method, but then they’re more than likely going to end up in the presence of people who aren’t supposed to know their existence…

Its your choice of course how you play but you asked for opinions....

The first thing is in licenced games such as this I feel that the games should resemble the licence..thats the whole point. You want to play what you see on screen..your idea just doesnt fit as an episode in the series..

These are a couple of issues which spring to mind when reading through.

Problems:

1. SG-O. Who trained these people, who are they, who's financing them, whats the point? The SGC has made it clear they dont operate in this manner on countless occasions. Why have a top secret team in a top secret organisation. What types of missions do you intend this team to go on?

2. There base is on the moon. How does the Stargate operate..given it would share earths address and if i had a DHD it would become Earths primary gate.

3. The Tollans & the Asgard don't share techology.

4. The Black gate idea is a poor & lazy story device. Something so simple that the noone else managed discover in thousands of years?

First Mission
The idea of a rogue Asgard is interesting but I believe they have evolved past this. They are supposed to be the supreme goodly race. The protectors of the galaxy..who are instantly tainted. Why would the Asgard turn to SG-0? and why is this a SG-0 mission. It doesnt sound particulary top secret...although it does sound like it could be a interesting sg-1 episode :-)
