Starship Combat - best rules you have seen

Blood & Space combat is IMO not so better than d20SW or T20

In my Dragonstar game we rapidly came to the conculsion last week that the starship combat rules (what few there are in there), frankly, suck!
I want something that can simulate damage to individual sections of the ship. Targetting specific systems maybe even having individual locations (on big ships) have 'x' number of 'hit points' and then having that area destroyed/disabled.

So you want to fire the imperial cruiser's canons, or engines, or helm's bridge, rather than hit an overal number of hit-points as for creatures' combat ?

Well, I earlier said that Blood & Space is mediocre. However three people say it's excellent. Well, I may be wrong, I admit. For me some Blood & Space feats are mediocre although their ideas is interesting. For example Brinksmanship, that I was obliged to rewrite so it can make sense in terms of game mechanics; several feats (piloting feats for space combat) are not very clear IMO, though okay, English is not my native language.

Nonetheless, when you damage the ship, you cannot choose to shoot a specific part of the starship. You just have a table to roll a d20 and see specific effects of the attack in addition to hit-points damage. I agree it looks easier to use than Dragonstar, but that's all.

In any case, if you pick these rules and use them, please tell us if it is what you wanted or not.
 

Just for clarification, Turanil... you didn't really say that Blood and Space was mediocre... I think the exact wording was... uhmm... "sucks" ... yeah. :)

:heh: Ahem... It is time for me to admit my ignorance. Well, English is not my native language. So, the word "mediocre" being the same in my native tongue, it well convey my opinion about Blood & Space. On the other hand, I don't really understand what is the exact meaning of "sucks" when people don't like something. It's just it sounds cool, so I used it without knowing if it would be appropriate.

But maybe someone can tell me when and what for this idiomatic is used.
 

mediocre in french has a strong negative connotation.
While the original meaning of neither good nor bad is the same (i.e. average/medium), I'm not sure that the negative connotation is as strong in english as in french.
Something that sucks is of poor quality.
 

Thanks all for the suggestions, everybody. Hopefully the one(s) I can get alhold of with my limited gaming budget right now will fit the bill. I haven't decided which ones to try and use but at least I have some great starting points thanks to you guys.

'Sucks' means nothing more than 'I don't like it' and is used by people who think saying things suck is a 'cool' posture to take.
