Starting Deep Horizon...any suggestions?

Advice, eh? Well, I would pick up the module, slowly tear it in two. Toss it in the wastepaper basket and light it . . .

I´ll second that. Deep Horizon is the worst entry in the Adventure Path series by far. This one even made HoNS look good.

Other than that: You´ll have to do LOTS of preparation on the second part of the adventure (the "murder mystery"). Do it thoroughly and do it well ahead of time.

But, the module will still suck.
