Starting equipment beyond 1st level?

I'm doing a d20 Modern one-shot this week to test out the system, and I'm lost on how to determine the starting equipment for heroes above 1st level. Am I missing where this is discussed in the book? If I am, where is it? If not, what would the kind people in this forum recommend?

Okay... so as I'm understanding it, the PCs figure out their Wealth bonus, then automatically get everything they want that has a Purchase DC less than or equal to that, as long as the DC is less than 15. Anything with a DC of 15 or higher decreases their Wealth bonus. The rest of their stuff they just roll for, which will decrease their Wealth bonus each time.

Is that how it's supposed to work?

Yeah, pretty much, From The FAQ

How do you determine starting Wealth for high-level characters?

The bonus given on Table 7-2 is the starting point. To that number, add any additional Wealth bonus for the character's starting occupation, feats, etc. Also add a bonus equal to the number of ranks the character has in Profession. Finally, the result is the Wealth bonus for an NPC.

When creating a high-level player character, add +2 to the total.

Then just have the player equip the character as per buying stuff at character generation sidebar on page 91.

also if you're starting from character generation they can "Take 20" on a purchase check

For example they want something thats DC 27 and they have 12 wealth.

They can take 20 to get a result of 32, and thus be able to purchase the object

Of course since the DC isthat much higher then 15 they lose more then a single point, i think they lose 1d6, i'm not sure.
