Starting Magic Items for high level characters

DMG, Starting with Higher Level Characters section.
You get one item of Level + 1, one of Level, and one of Level - 1. You also get enough gold to equal the cost of an item of Level - 1 and as much mundane gear as you want.
As long as you don't use them for characters of level 2 or 3 who want to abuse the "infinite mundane" portion, they work out pretty well. You have fewer items than a character would have at that level if he'd started from scratch, but you get to cherry pick them and you didn't have to work for them.
