Starting Magic Items (or Boons) for PCs with Inherent Bonuses

S'mon

Here's a table I worked out which I think gives appropriate magic items (or boons) for a wealth-poor setting using the DMG 2 Inherent Bonuses. The idea is that the PC gains 2 per 5 levels, which is the rate recommended in DMG 2.

Level 1-3: 100gp
Level 4-5: 1 Item Level 3, 100gp
Level 6-7: 2 Items Level 3 & Level 5, 100gp
Level 8-10: 3 Items Level 3, Level 5, Level 8, 100gp

Level 11-13: 3 Items Level 5, Level 8, Level 10, 100gp
Level 14-15: 3 Items Level 8, Level 10, Level 13, 100gp
Level 16-17: 3 Items Level 10, Level 13, Level 15, 100gp
Level 18-20: 3 Items Level 13, Level 15, Level 18, 100gp

Level 21-23: 3 Items Level 15, Level 18, Level 20, 100gp
Level 24-25: 3 Items Level 18, Level 20, Level 23, 100gp
Level 26-27: 3 Items Level 20, Level 23, Level 25, 100gp
Level 28-30: 3 Items Level 23, Level 25, Level 28, 100gp

This is really great, not to mention necessary if you want to use those rules. Can't give xp. Will someone cover me again?

Can I ask why you chose to bunch up levels, instead of scaling the items more finely? And shouldn't higher level characters have more items? If you had two heroic-level items at level 7, wouldn't you likely have at least one of them still at level 27 (especially if they're not weapons prone to the DS weapon breakage rule)?

It caps at 3 items/boons because that's how the standard 4e rules allocate items, I think they should be rare in an Inherents game, and the assumption is that items are traded or upgraded. But you can assign a mess of lower level items to high level PCs if you like. Or you may allow a PC to sell an item at 20% and buy a mess of items with the cash.

The table represents the career of a notional adventurer, with gear listed at the start of each level, who gains items of his own level in the course of the following levels: Heroic 3, 5, 7, 10. Paragon: 13, 15, 17, 20. Epic: 23, 25, 27, (30). An 'experienced' 30th level PC - one with the XP of a notional 31st level character - would have 25th, 28th and 30th level items.
