Starting message board play -- first adventure advice needed

Whizbang Dustyboots

Gnometown Hero
After years of futzing around with chat games, MMORPGs and scattered real-life games, a group of my friends are going to be starting a message board game in the new year, using my Barony of Midwood setting (world of Praemal, just a faaar off corner).

I could use some advice from the folks who've done this, DMing or playing, before:

I think the first adventure, just to warm everyone up, will involve them exploring one of the many tombs in an ancient funereal mound. This will be level one characters, with some players who haven't played in years, some of whom haven't played ever. I don't want it to be too combat-heavy (the back-and-forth of combat really can't shine in the message board medium, IMO), but I do want the exploration to be dangerous and culminate in an interesting thing in the tomb (although disposable -- I don't have any intention of this bad guy returning later on). Skeletons are fairly obvious for most of the chambers, but do people have any suggestions about a slightly tougher and more interesting "big bad?" Assume I have all the commonly available books. Any ideas on hooks for getting them to explore the tomb? I'm normally more interested in social motivations for adventures, but I thought warming up with a classic mini dungeon crawl would be a good idea. (I'm using the 0one's Blueprints Cairns ruined cairn map from RPGNow, if anyone's curious -- their maps in general rule, and fit into what I'm looking to do with this campaign.)

Thanks for your help in advance.
