Starting Shadow Chaser Campaing

Hi there folks, excuse me if my english stinks ;)

I'm an experienced D&D DM, and I'll be Gming a brand new Shadow Chasers Modern campaing. I'll be starting with lvl 1 characters. I told my player's we were going to play with no magic so as to rest from so many years of D&D (you may have noticed that it is a lie, because a I want to surprice them with strange happenings during the game).

Has anybody here played such a campaing?
Any suggestions?
Links with cool, free material?

I'll apreciate any help! thanks a lot. :)

I don't think you should lie to your players. "No spellcasting" would be a fair description. You could run the first few adventures with only very subtle intrusion of magic in order to establish that magic and monsters, when they appear, are strange and shocking.

Wizards of the Coast have many free adventures up: d20 Modern Adventures

I also suggest downloading the Modern Arcana SRD or getting Urban Arcana. The only difference between UA and SC is the approach to the shadow and the level of magic you use (though even the Mage advanced class would be ok in a SC campaign, if you are going for a BUffy feel, if you are going for the Sword of Dracula feel... weeeellll). UA has a LOT of cool creatures and stuf in it and I HIGHLY suggest it, very, very cool and an SC campaign can EASILY become a UA campaign... imagine going spelunking and coming across a hidden Drow city in the bowels of the earth. Droool.

Borrow heavily from the works of H. P. Lovecraft. Magic is a time-consuming and soul-consuming thing, not something the PCs want to mess with. "The Case of Charles Dexter Ward" would be a good example of powerful magic that the PCs should never want to use, given the price one must pay.

If you want to creep them out I recommend Blood and Spooks by RPGObjects for lotsa cool ideas, classes, etc. I definately use the Horror rules from Call of Cthulu. Personally I also really like the OGL Horror by Mongoose for spells, as the true "horrific" type spells should have a cost to the casters. Now please forgive this "hawkin", but I think my pdf adventure Last Rites is a pretty good starter module for a Shadow Chaser's campaign. We have also produced Bloodlines, which is a mini-campaign, and in my oh-so-humble opinion the best modern horror adventure ever done. We also offer lotsa free stuff on our website, such as the Pinebox, Texas campaign setting, initiative cards for all our adventures, there's even some creepy EVPs for use with Last Rites. I love horror gaming, and welcome any modern folks looking to start a shadow chaser campaign, as there just ain't enough of us out there!

So good luck, and please post what ya do, as I really enjoy hearing about such games.

Just to follow up on Jackson's post, you can find free adventures and adventure ideas in the 12 to Midnight newsletter, called Journal of American Paranormal Research. From your campaign description, I recommend issue 3 in particular. You can download the newsletters for free from RPG Now. Good luck!

Isn't Shadowchasers the Buffy rip off? If so, I'd recommed highly against Urban Arcana. Ugh, of all the settings they gave detail to it had to be that one! "Look dude, I'm a gnoll and I'm going to bite your face off, but only after I collect my Pimpin' money!"

Yeah, you heard me! Blah! Most unimaginative thing I've seen from WoTC yet, especially disappointing after seeing so many cool ideas in Polyhedron and of course Call of Cthulhu d20.
