Starting Wealth for Higher Level Characters

Sorry if this has been addressed before, but the starting wealth tables for characters above level 1 are just messed up. Maybe I'm reading them wrong or missing a sentence somewhere...but I don't feel like a level 5 character should only have +8 wealth. Is this figure added to your starting wealth? I'm confused.

Well, there's three basic option. First, there's the official options. Outlined on page 161 of the UACS, the numbers presented are added to the numbered received during character creation. Second, there's the other official option, outlined in the Second Bullet Points article. It's a bit more complex, but balanced.

Third, there's a method my GM uses. Level + Profession Ranks + Occupational Bonuses + Other Bonuses. It's close to both above, but tends to give out less money early on, but more latter.
