Gleemax has, in my opinion, a great community, and I want it to turn out as best as it can.

In case you are referring to an alpha not being made available to the general populace, yes, I think that's a good thing.

An alpha release typically has too many and too severe bugs. You'll end up with too many bug reports, most of them addressing the same bugs over and over. They also tend to be not very useful because of the missing technical background of the majority of 'testers'.

Expecting more feedback than a general "looks promising, go ahead!" or a "that's horrible, back to the drawing boards!" would be unrealistic, imho.
