Statting a couple of thrown weapons

Do these writeups seem reasonable? I don't have any weapon books giving stats for these:

Throwing Knife (Martial, Rogue)
Cost: 2gp
Dmg: 1d3
Crit: x3
Range Incr: 20'
Wt: .5
Type: Piercing

Chakram (Exotic)
Cost: 4gp
Dmg: 1d4
Crit: 18-20/x2
Range: Incr. 20'
Wt: 1
Type: Slashing

I'm pretty sure that I have read 3e stats for the chakram somewhere, in one of the splat books maybe, possibly OA. Don;t have them available at the moment, so i can't check.

As for the knife, looks good, but why a x3 crit on it? A dagger has a 19-20 / x2 when thrown, and that is a very similar weapon to a throwing knife, so I would go with a 19-20 / x2 myself for it's crit.

Maybe I was just trying to be different with the critical. I think I was labouring under the impression that a regular dagger was a piercing & slashing weapon, don't know why, and that it would better reflect the piercing nature of the weapon to have a rare but more powerful critical.

Yeah, I guess change it to 19-20/x2, as that will be more consistent with other bladed weapons.

IMHO

I would either use the x3 crit or up the range increment to 30'.

I have used both real throwing knives and just an okay knife in target throwing. As such, I can tell you that there is a significant difference. For starters, throwing knives are lighter and superbly balanced, so increased range is easy. I have thrown them from ranges of 20-40' and the slight increase mentioned above does make sense.

Re: IMHO

Well don't forget that the increment is just that. I don't have experience throwing knives, but would you say that you were just as accurate throwing at targets 40' away as at 20'?

Javelins have a range increment of 30'. I don't think I could buy throwing knives having the same range.

Too true

I don't think I could buy throwing knives having the same range. -CCamfield

You do have a point. The thing is that it is much easier to throw a short knife over hand than it is to throw a low stick with accuracy. I think this would work in.

The other option is to amend the description by saying that weapon focus (or Finesse if you prefer) adds the extra couple of feet.
