Statting Out Movie Characters for SWSE

Looking a bit more through the book to get a sense of things, I thumbed through the "Eras of Play" chapter last night. Man! Is this thing thin! Ok, you get Luke, but only Episode VI Luke (I know, you can reverse engineer him, but still).

My big disappointment however was the lack of some of the other supporting players from the other movies. In particular, I was looking for Qui Gon Jin's stats, Darth Maul's stats, etc.

Also, I noted that according to the rules, Han can speak Basic, Huttese, Rodian, and Shyriwook, but he's only got an Int of 14 and I didn't notice any place where he took an extra language. Did I miss something, or did they fudge him since he clearly understands all of these languages in the movies?

One more thing -- I noticed that they didn't give Luke Force Grip, despite the fact that he uses it on Jabba in RotJ. Any thoughts?

The Official answer is that the developers felt that since that's the one and only time we see Luke use that power, there's a viable interpretation that what Luke did was Mind Trick the guards into believing they were choking. He didn't actually choke them, he just distracted them so he could get by.

Personally, I don't agree, and think he choked them into unconsciousness (and it caused a lot of whining on the WotC boards), but that's the official answer.

Stats for movie characters might be interesting filler, but the book was being kept lean, and they don't, strictly speaking, help in play. For the record, the original WEG Star Wars RPG had NO movie character stats. They weren't provided until the release of the Star Wars Sourcebook. And even then, we only got their "as of the Battle of Yavin" stats.

I'm mainly interested in seeing the stats so that I could say, "ok, I'm interested in making a Qui-Gon kind of a character, let me see a model of what that would look like. I'm not really interested in having my characters MEET Qui-Gon.

So, perhaps what I'm asking is, how would you stat out some of your favorite characters from the movies, or from the expanded universe? I'll try to work up Qui-Gon over the weekend.
 

Oh, also, on Force Grip, one thing I noticed is that it doesn't have a "Dark Side" descriptor, which it has had in other contexts. At the time I thought it was a way of justifying Luke using it without accumulating a Dark Side point, but now, perhaps not.
 

It's pretty easy to stat up characters in Saga. I statted up Greedo for the WotC boards on a lark. It took me about 5 iterations to settle on all his stats, and it still only took me a couple hours.

Force Grip isn't Dark Side 'cuz it's really just an application of Telekinesis. It's certainly not evil to crush a droid with it, so it's not a Dark Side power.

However, GMs are encouraged to consider increasing a character's Dark Side Score for "using the force to cause undue harm" to living beings.
 

For Qui-Gon Jinn, I'd go with Jedi (with lots of Consular talents) 5/Jedi Knight 2/Jedi Master 5 or something like that.

For Mace Windu, it's Jedi 5/Jedi Knight 10/Jedi Master 5 (making him 20th level, on par with Yoda and Palpy).

Qui-Gon Jinn was only listed in the original Core Rules, and Darth Maul was in the original Core Rules and the Dark Side Sourcebook.
Well, converting their older stats into SWSE (and incorporating things like Lightsaber Styles, which didn't exist when those rules were made) you get something like this (just showing the ability scores and skill/feat/class ability choices, you can add up the defenses, total skill bonuses, hit points ect. yourself).
