stealth game (mark lewis stay out)

stealth mode

I should have qualified this in the begining. we are going through the DM's conversion of the 1e module series Aginst the Giants and the Valut of the Drow.

the party can all see in the dark, move silently and hide (for those who the skills are crossclass also have the most ranks that they can + elven cloak and books.

WARNING darkvision WARNING

Against Drow. Ha. You funny. Gooood luck!

I've been studying up on this since (a) *my* party is about to hit the Underdark, (b) my character found out a couple of sessions ago that he has a half-cousin Drow that wants him dead. Here're some things I've found out IC that you may be able to put to good use.

(1) Do NOT put your trust in darkvision magic. Most if not all darkvision spells & items will confer 60 foot darkvision. This is woefully inadequate as most Underdark denizens have twice that (Drow, Deep Gnomes, Deep Dwarves all have 120 foot darkvision).

(2) Do NOT expect targetted spells to work on Drow. They've got that pesky SR thing going for them. Hate 'em bunches for that. Go the more indirect path of buffs and such.

(3) Do NOT be shy about running away! Okay, well, this one is OOC, but my GM warned us that if we can't take care of business quietly (and this party has yet to resolve combats subtlely) sound WILL carry and enemy reinforcements WILL arrive.

The best plan I have for getting my party into the Underdark safely and unseen is gonna heavily rely on our rogue. He has mongo stealth (40s to 50s) and plenty of invis (if he's on good terms with the party's Sorcerer). Should those fall through he has a Robe of Blending + lots of ranks of Bluff that should allow him to talk guards away from their posts and into our clutches (bwahaha!).

It's thin, but it's what we're planning. I'll let you know if any of us manage to survive the first encounter! :-)

the drow

most of what you said my character also knows Or will once we get into it. we have a nightwalker (PrC) who will have 120' darkvision next level. after that he will advance as a ranger (again) he also has 3 levels of rogue. he is the best at Move silently at +26 or so. my rogue4/fighter2/lasher1/temple raider1 has baout +22. we are relying on darkvision to the extent that "at least its not a beacon of a light source that can be seen for miles". the party may have 2 wizards so I don't expect invisibility to be a problem. the mages both have greater spell focus and a 21 natural INT along with headbands of intelect +2 and spell casting protogee. at least one of them is looking at spell penetration (then greater spell penetration) so while pesky I expect resistance will be overcome at least part of the time (it sure better!) I REALLY REALLY HATE Drow Elves!

and, uh, oh yeah

potions of delay poison and lesser restoration should be relatively cheap at your level and extremely helpful (aka useful) for cutting down on your "MUST CAMP NOW!" time.
