Wombat, you seem to know a lot about this genre (including the music ;) ). I wouldn't mind picking your brain on some additional steampunk-related stuff for my campaign.

I think some of this comes from having a grandfather who was born in 1876... ;)

Sounds interesting. I am going for something a bit different. I am looking at a Renissance style campaign with some fantastic elements like zepplins, (limited) firearms, and maybe limited mechanical tech; kinda like a quasi-Warcraft.

Is any of these sourcebooks a good source for this type of campaign?

In steampunk sourcebooks may I recommend GURPS Steampunk by William Stoddard. Bill pays attention to the details and provides a lot of material one could use in most any setting.

While I needed to do some twitching OGL Steampunk by Mongoose is a lot of fun, though it has some pretty bad editing.

The character classes are a good fit, and the tech rules are very, very good - though with some odd ommisions. (No automatic fire or explosive weapons... odd.)

Plus there is one really nice illustration of an elf inventor writing with her spoon while her pen sits in her tea cup... :)
