Steampunk - what's your opinion?

What Do You Think of Steampunk?

  • Steampunk is evil and should stay away from 3e, DnD in general.

  • Steampunk needs to be in 3e, and I would incorporate it completely into my campaign.

I like the idea of Steampunk but think that it's not for everyone.

I'd love to see a Castle Falkenstein d20 book.

I'd love to see something along the lines of Mage Knight where black powder and steam power are coming into their own against more arcane (Atlantis) creations.

I'm mostly interested in the primative style mecha. Very interested to see what War Machine from Privateer Press will play like.

I like some ideas like those found in WarHammer. Dwarves with rail systems and Ork and Gobbo crushing machines of war. Skaven with their wild and chaotic machines of destruction. Etc.
I wouldn't want to go overboard but I think some things still fit into the D&D world.

I love steampunk, but only in the appropriate alternate history real world setting.

Steampunk and fantasy don't mix in my mind. So while I would love to see steampunk rules, I would want them to be generic enough to use without any magical elements or races other than humans.

I think that it would be quite appropriate to have a product that had generic steampunk feats, items, etc, and let people plug them into FR, or 1880's America.

I'll give this a bump.

I am asking this question, mainly because I am working on steampunk rules. I am not entirely sure what the world out there is looking for, so I created this poll. I myself am interested in steampunk, and have been fascinated with the idea ever since I saw an ad for Arcanum.

I apologize that it isn't complete. I simply wrote what came to mind for the choices. Obviously, your opinions are most welcome and I request that you post them, even if what you think is not reflected in the answers to the polls.

Thanks.

A LATE ARRIVAL...

Ever since I bought Arcanum CRPG, I have been interested in steampunk fantasy genre. I like the idea of magic and technology blend in the world, even though they occupy on opposite sides of the spectrum. You lean toward technology, and magic tends to fail you, and vice versa.

I hope that Privateer Press would finally publish the Iron Kingdom campaign sourcebook (or better yet, acquire the license to publish Arcanum pen-and-paper RPG).

Hey Gnomeworks,
You should swing over to the FanCC forum, They are setting up for a Netbook of steam and are looking for contributers.

In fact here's a link

Thanks, Bugbear, I'll look into it.

However, I am still interested in what everyone has to say. I've been working on this project off and on for the last couple of years, beginning with 2nd ed rules that were then translated to 3rd. It's seen a lot of change since then, and even the version I've got now (110 pages of steampunk goodness), isn't a working system. I just want to know what the world thinks about steampunk, to see if continuing work on this is worth it, other than for use in my own campaign.

Sorry, this is little more than an elaborate bump.

Well, all I can say is that if you like Steampunk, gnomes, and tinkering, then you should pick up Bluffside:City on the Edge.

Two Words: Steam Gnomes

Thunderhead Games more or less hired me based on the work I did for the FanCC. I wrote the (now defunct) Netbook of Tinkering.

Bluffside should be in stores probably next week. If you like what you see in there, there'll probably be more to come. :)
