I've always thought Steampunk was pretty cool, but never really got into it until a few months ago. We started playing a Western Steampunk game using about 75% D&D 3.5 rules and 25% homebrew/miscellanious rules, just as a change of pace from the traditional Sword and Sorcery fantasy setting we're all used too. It's a blast. We also use a lot of stuff from the the Warcraft RPG. The Tinker class is awesome, and their invention rules are complicated at first, but pretty good once you get the hang of them. (I don't think I would call Warcraft itself "steampunk" though. Although there are steampunky elements.) Anyway, this game is one of the best I've played.
Our party has an acrobatic gunslinger with a mechanical hand, a gunslinging undead hunting priest, and a 7 foot inventor with a giant steam powered hammer and plenty of bombs.
The world is fantastic. We've fought undead, mad scientists with crazy weapons, your average western outlaws, and hillbilly goblins with herds of wild boars. Not to mention countless unique NPCs. Going shopping is awesome in this world.
There's just something incredibly cool to me about a cowboy paladin drinking a health potion and firing away at a Balor in a gold mine. (that hasn't actually happened in our game, but I just love how you can have cool things like that happening.)
So yes, I really love Steampunk. Another neat steampunky game is Malifaux, a tabletop skirmish game from Wyrd Minitaures. Anyone play?
