I've tried wiping out my history and cleaning out my cache, but the main forums page is still piratical in nature for me on one of my machines (Win2k, IE6). My other (WinXP, IE6) is just fine. Any ideas why?

If it's still showing that stuff, then your cache isn't clearing out (not to overstate the obvious). You may want to manually clear out your temporary internet files (under Documents and settings/user name/local settings/temporary internet files).

Ok, I wiped out my history (again), wiped out the archived files (again), cleared the cache (again) and set the options to get a refresh the page on every hit...still seeing pirates on the main forum page.

I would almost say, copy a unique segment of the pirate script in question, disconnect from the internet, and then run your windows "search files" option, looking for that text, just to see where the hell it's still residing... stuff buried like that always drives me nuts when it's on my system.

What does CTRL + F5 do for you?

Also, I'm assuming you're still not going to a "cyberstreet" address, though even if you were, I don't think that would matter - we weren't using that address at the time...

I keep picturing Bill Murray in Groundhog Day.

Talking like a pirate was fun for one day, but I can't imagine being trapped in that day.

I feel for you, Kingpaul, but I must confess that I might be grinning a little too.

Ok, I did a search on "lubber" every file on my hard drive. I got hits from:
  • 3 Lexmark *.lex files
  • 2 Adobe Acrobat *.syd files
  • 1 Business Objects *.lov file
  • 6 PCGen files
  • 1 web page of Elizabethan insults.

Alright, color me highly confused! The pirate talk is now gone, and I haven't done anything to this machine today. The pirate talk was their this morning, but not now. *walks away muttering about 'confounded computers'*
