Stipend for PCs with Inherent Bonuses - Paragon Tier

gideonpepys

Pay no attention to that man behind the curtain.
Does anyone have any idea of the amount of stipend PCs should go on to receive in paragon tier?

Somewhere on these boards was posted a fabulous spreadsheet with all of the calculations necessary for heroic tier, but I can't remember who posted it. It's been a godsend this past year to have it worked out ahead of time.

Maths has never been my strong point and I can't identify the formula for the life of me.

If you still have that spreadsheet, and no one else has done it already, I can probably figure out the math.

Why, thank you. If it's not too much trouble I would greatly appreciate it. Please find attached.

(Hope it helps any of the other visitors to this thread who were hoping to find the solution rather than a question - I realize now that I phrased the title quite badly!)

In the normal progression, a party earns treasure each level equal to the value of two at-level items and one item each from level + 1 to level + 4.

The Inherent Bonuses progression removes the level + 1 and the level + 4 item values, so the party gets the value of two at-level items, one level + 2 item, and one level + 3 item.

The hardest part was calculating the item value per level, since I don't have my books or Compendium access handy. However, I found a great thread on RPG.net that lays out the 4E item cost formula. From that, I was able to extend the spreadsheet to give you the values you want. I don't seem to be able to upload the spreadsheet, but I'll try that again tonight or this weekend. In the meantime, here are numeric tables.

I have to spread some Experience Points around before giving it to you again. Can't remember what you earned it for last time, but this is the best thing anyone has ever done for me ever.

Thanks!

Happy to help. :) I forgot to upload the spreadsheet this weekend, but I can still do so if you or anyone else wants to check out the formulas.

Okay, the updated spreadsheet is attached. Note that I had to calculate the values of level 31-35 items to be factored into the wealth by level for levels 26-30.

Fantastic thread! I was curious about this as well, but much too lazy to try and do the math myself. . .

Thanks to Ajar for the heavy lifting, and thanks to gideonpepys for the asking!

Does anyone have any idea of the amount of stipend PCs should go on to receive in paragon tier?

I am running a heavily modified 4e for my game including inherent bonuses. However I've also changed the money curve so my values may not match your values. I did this for a few reasons:

  1. With inherent bonuses, magic items never fall off the back end. A magic weapon is just bringing powers/properties to the table, so if you get a magic weapon @L1 you could still theoretically use that same item at level 30. This means the party needs a lot fewer magic items.
  2. I wanted to change the gp math in 4e which in my mind is absurd. I don't want PC's running around with enough money to buy large countries. I don't even want them running around with enough money to buy a castle, unless that is what they want to do and they make it a priority over other goals. So in my game the gold piece is a useful unit of currency all the way through level 30.

I accomplished #1 by lowering the # of magic items the party gets per level (and thus their Z allowance money). I accomplished #2 by using the RAW L10 gp costs as my L30 gp costs, and banding items every 3 levels. So my L1-3 items cost RAW L1 prices, my L4-6 cost RAW L2, etc. Rituals are hell as the prices are a mess and I make it up as we go along.

I've attached my house rules so you can see my math if you like, maybe it will help you out.

Thanks! This would have been a great help if I'd just been starting out, but it might be a tough sell to retrofit the campaign at this stage.

I agree with your assessment of the economics of 4E. How they made such a mess of it I don't know. Some simple rules (such as yours) keying the utility and power levels of items off the level of the character easily prevent abuse of magic items without trying to price them out of reach.

I'm thinking of having the RHC stipend peter out in paragon, and have the adventurers rely on what they find. (There has to be an upper limit on spending, doesn't there?)
